The depth of the indentation is measured to determine the Rockwell Hardness Number (HR). This test is widely used due to its quick and straightforward procedure.
3. Vickers Hardness Test: The Vickers test involves pressing a diamond pyramid indenter into the metal under a specific load. The size of the indentation is measured under a microscope to calculate the Vickers Hardness Number (HV). This method is suitable for very hard materials and thin coatings.
4. Knoop Hardness Test: Similar to the Vickers test, the Knoop test uses an elongated diamond indenter. It is particularly useful for brittle materials and thin coatings, providing a detailed hardness profile.
